Milton, MA (February 12, 2026) – Alejandro Delgado's (Haverhill, MA) conversion of a three point play with 39.4 seconds remaining secured the #4 nationally ranked NECC men's basketball team a 69-68 win on the road in what could be called an instant classic. The win improved the Knights overall record to 24-3 overall and 17-2 in region play.
With under five minutes to play in the game both teams exchanged five point leaders with Delgado and the Knights throwing the last punch as following his game tying basket and winning free throw, the defense forced a turnover and Quincy was unable to get a shot off in the waning seconds.
The win concluded a regular season sweep of the Granite as the Knights won 92-87 in overtime on December 6th.
Delgado finished the game with a team high 17 points. Undersized against the Quincy frontline he was still able to grab 11 rebounds for his 21st double-double of the season.
He was joined in double figures by a pair of teammates as Alex Johnson (Worcester) and Joan Vidal (Lawrence) tossed in 12 and 11 respectively. Vidal also handed out six assists.
With neither team ever holding an advantage of more than eight points at any point in the game, NECC took a one point lead to the locker room at halftime 33-32.
The win also marked career win number 375 for head coach Darren Stratton.
NECC will hit the road for the final time on Friday when they travel to UConn-Avery Point for a 2:00pm tip off in Groton, CT. The Knights will return home on Tuesday February 17th and Friday February 20th to conclude the regular season. Two wins in the final three games will secure the Knights the post-season tournaments number one seed for a third consecutive season.
