Haverhill, MA (January 28, 2025) – The #4 NECC men's basketball team used an explosive 51 point first half and high-pressure defense to subdue Massasoit on Wednesday evening in route to an 82-61 victory and in the process pushed the Knights into sole possession of first place. The win improved the Knights record to 20-3 overall and 13-2 in regional play.
The 51-point first half gave the Knights a 21 point lead heading into the locker room at halftime. The offense cooled a bit in the second half as both teams played even and scored 31 points apiece.
Alejandro Delgado (Haverhill) led all scorers as he poured in a game high 28 points to go along with 12 rebounds for his 18th double-double of the season. He was joined in double figures by Cristian Moscat (Lawrence) who scored 13 in the contest.
The Knights defensive pressure caused 15 steals in the game and forced a total of 21 turnovers in the contest.
Yuno Matuda (Tokyo, JP) scored the first six points of the contest for the Knights while handing out a game high seven assists.
NECC will return to the court on Friday night when they travel south to take on Community College of Rhode Island with tip off set for 7:30pm in Warwick.
