Haverhill, MA (October 22, 2018) – Four members of the Region 21 champion Northern Essex Community College women's volleyball team were named to the six member All-Region team as announced on Monday by the conference office. In addition NECC Coach Mike Pelosi in his first season leading the program was named the Regional Coach of Year as the Knights currently sit at 13-3 on the season ahead of the District Tournament.
Rachel Amiss (Salem, NH), Amanda Forgetta (Mallabar, FL), Sarah Shattuck (Andover, MA) and Nashaly Sanchez (Lawrence, MA) all received the recognition based on their performances throughout the season.
Amiss, a co-captain, led the region in hitting percentage with a clip of .419 which also ranks third nationally in the NJCAA. She also leads the region in service aces at 42 and second in both aces per set at .84 and total kills 121.
Forgetta, also a co-captain, is the regional leader in both kills and kills per set at 124 and 2.48 respectively. She is also third regionally in digs with 98.
Shattuck, the regionally leader in blocks per set at .70. She is also second regionally in hitting percentage at .321 and is fourth regionally in digs at 89.
Sanchez, the team's setter is the regional leader in assists with 304 and ranks second in assists per set at 6.47.
Fresh off the programs seventh regional championship over the weekend, the Knights will head to the District G/H Tournament to be hosted this weekend at Region XV in New York. Game times and location are still to be determined.
Northern Essex Community College competes as a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and sponsors nine varsity intercollegiate sports including baseball, men's basketball, golf, softball, women's volleyball, men's and women's cross country and men's and women's track and field.
